Himalayan griffon vulture
The Himalayan griffon vulture is a native to the Himalayas and adjourning Tibet plateau. It is one of the oldest vultures, although its immatures disperse widely to lowland areas . Usually seen single or in small groups. It is a principle scavenger at Tibetan sky burials. They prefer rocky areas and mountain peaks where they mostly reside in altitudes between 1200 and 5500 meters. They built their nest within caves and return to the same nesting site. They mainly feed on large mammals and monitor other scavenging birds to locate sources of food.
