Khalij Pheasant
Pheasants are beautiful, very colorful. According to English oxford dictionary the word pheasant ultimately comes from the phasis the ancient name what is now called the rioni river in Georgia. I spotted the khalij pheasant in the eastern zone of kaziranga park in Assam . This bird is afraid of human beings. I have observed that smaller birds donot bother of human beings around them but these are afraid. This bird is mainly seen in the forest areas of Nepal, Pakistan and Thailand . The male is colorful While the female is brownish. On 21st October the government of Jammu and Kashmir declared khalij pheasant as a bird of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Male glossy black above with steel and blue glossy tail, whitish eyes to the rump. The female is reddish brown. It is mostly seen in the Himalayas and the north east India. Male varying in color to glossy black to black and grey or white crest black in other races. Seen in pairs small gatherings. Spends most of the time on grounds of the forest roads during early mornings or late afternoons, good flier roast on trees during nights.
