Indian roller
This bird is mainly seen in forest areas, open field and scrub forest. In India it is known as neelkant pakshi. Neelkant means blue throat and lord shiva has blue throat which means birs is a symbol of goodluck talking about Ramayana lord rama before killing demon king and winning the battle saw this bird. I had the honor to see this bird in navi Mumbai and assam in kaziranga park. It is very colorful with shades of blue on crown and wings with wood color belly sturdy bill with hook at the tip. The eyes are black with orange red eye ring. This bird feeds on insects. Breeding season is march to June. The nest is formed by collecting grass, straw and rags in a natural hollow in a tree trunk or wall 3 to 4 eggs glossy white.
