Pallas fish eagle

The pallas fish eagle is a large eagle that has more horizontal stance when perched compared to other fish eagles. I saw this bird on my recent trip to kaziranga in the north eastern part of India I watched this bird for at least 30 minutes for that 30 minutes it had kept its wings spread. This bird is large but light looking, this eagle has rakish looks. The handsome adult has a pale head, rufous grey underparts and dark brown upper parts. Its white tail has a broad terminal band. The male & female are similar but female is larger. It feeds mainly on fish sometimes on birds such as cranes small mamals and carrion. It is mainly found in the north east and east rajasthan, it perches on a high tree near the river side.
