Darter

Also called the snake bird. It has lance like orange bill and black underparts and back. It gas an extended scapular and scapulars and territorials. A white line goes half away down its light brown neck from behind its eyes. The breeding male has dark spots on its white throat . The juvenile has a brown neck and lacks the white line on the side of the neck. It nest in colonies with cormorant and storks and builds platform of sticks laying 3 to 5 eggs. It hunts for fish and also eats water snakes, insects. Darters spend most of its time spreading its wings and tails while sitting on a favourite perch. The darter or a snake bird is wide spread in india from coastal wetlands to the Himalayas. It is also found outside India in Nepal and Burma
