
Shikra
The word shikra originates in the Persian language. Shikra means hunter. The shikra is blessed with a sharp eyesight a curved and a pointed beak.It hunts down lizard squirrels and birds. Shikra generally nest between march and june.Shikras nest is found in a cork tree neem tree, tamarind and other leafy trees the female lays 3-4 eggs they are pale blueish grey oval sometimes blotched with grey or pale purple. Both sexes share house chores including nest building and feeding the young. The food pipe is so wide that it can swallow large chunk of meat easily .A shikra flying up looks like a miniature glider.
