A boudoir is technically a woman’s bedroom or dressing room. In historical times, it was a separate room attached to the bedroom where a woman would get dressed. It later evolved into a place for a woman to be romantic with her partner as well.
The concept of a boudoir has always had sexual and sensual overtones to it, and although the term is no longer widely used to describe rooms, it has become a common way to describe a specific photography subject.
Boudoir photography typically consists of suggestive, although not explicit photographs of women in a variety of different clothing styles ranging from semi-nude to lingerie. Here’s some amazing examples:
