The Panasonic HDC-SX5 is a new 3CCD full-HD camcorder that provides vivid, true to life colours, greater detail and richer gradation. While most professional broadcast equipment uses the 3CCD camera system, Panasonic has downsized it for use in consumer models like the SX5. With the Advanced O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), the SX5 achieves greater precision and accuracy when recording videos, ultimately preventing subtle blurring caused by even the slightest bit of hand-shake. Another handy feature that looks to assist the user is the Pre-Rec function which continuously records three seconds of images into an internal buffer memory. By doing so, the three seconds immediately prior to actual recording are added to the beginning of the clip you record. This helps capture unexpected actions that you would otherwise miss.
