Description
Storm Alert Hurricane Coverage of Hurricane Ike on the Weather Channel. Currently, Ike is a 110 MPH category 2 hurricane, but will likely strengthen to a category 3 immediately before crashing ashore at the coast of Galveston with 115-120 mph winds. The convection and wind field are both much larger than Katrina's wind field at landfall, who was no diminutive storm herself. Hurricane force winds extend over 170 miles away from the center of Ike as he looks to make a last stint of strengthening just before landfall. This is the potential WORST CASE SCENARIO for Galveston/Houston. Katrina was a Cat 3 at landfall, and we can expect Ike to be one, too. Storm surge will likely be 25-35 feet higher than normal, partly because Ike will make landfall at or near high tide. Ike may be Katrina/Rita's big bad brother, and may cause $50-100 billion in damage and a huge loss of life.JUST TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW...I (being from Dallas) am going with my friend Geoff to a hurricane party in Houston tonight...I took my camera, small TV, equipment, lamp and everything else to cover and experience Hurricane Ike...I was taking a pit stop in San Antonio, TX when I filmed this, so you'll see the local forecast from S.A.TX.By the way, the storm alert music on the Local on the 8's is the BEST SONG EVER. My #1 favorite song of all-time, for any genre, hands down.
