Thoughts on this clip -- This was put together as a co-project between Curt Dippo and myself exactly 40 years ago as evidenced by the November 1967 Playboy cover. We did it to fulfill some English class project requirement while attending Diablo Valley College. Curt's father owned the Orinda Camera shop so he was able to borrow all sorts of camera equipment. We worked on the "storyline" together, Curt did most of the filming and editing. Editing? What a laugh! Much of it was done simply by stopping and starting the camera at the appropriate times with the successful or appropriate scene literally 'cut' (glued & taped) in later with a physical splice. We wanted to try as much as we could with the film medium, even trying some different camera angles and time lapse with the cigarette and me running circles around my competitor on -- yes, that is the Del Valle High School football field. I don't remember if this was filmed in 8mm or Super8, but there was no sound. I compiled the original soundtrack but it's long since lost as it was on separate 1/4" tape. I remember that the song, "No Matter What Shape" was included because the commercial for Alka-Seltzer had been playing and we wanted it in the movie. I remember it much longer but it's the very first scene after the newer intro title with someone's finger poking someone else's belly. Anyway, rather than have the whole thing silent, I edited in some 1966-67 music.The stars of the movie are Curt and me, of course, and our good friend Dick Cates, who used to live in our neighborhood. Another friend from the neighborhood was Lulu Hood who is seen briefly during the 'hug switch' and later during the 'life chronology' sequence. Many 'stars' have passed away, Curt, Doug Zundell, my childhood dog, Mack, and my Mom. Notice how tight Doug's pants and my shorts are -- the style of the day. Many of the other people shown were randomly filmed for the different scenes.And how do they get all that ketchup into the bottle anyway?
