Description

Orlando 1971Live at the Civic Auditorium, Orlando, Florida, August 31, 1971"Interestingly, I've just got a bootleg from a gig in Orlando and in between every song I'm playing all these riffs. Somebody played it to me and I thought, Crikey, they're really good riffs! They never got used again, but they just came out on the spur of the moment. It was such an inspiring time, playing with inspired people, and we were all absolutely on top of it."- Jimmy Page, Guitarist Magazine (12/12/03)There are three versions of this show in circulation: Welcome To Disneyland Part 1 And 2 (Lemon Song) is an incomplete audience recording. Florida Sunshine: Orlando Magic (Empress Valley) is a nearly-complete soundboard with the missing gaps filled with an audience recording. Then there is Orlando: You Really Got Me (Genuine Masters). The latter is a DVD release (photo stills as a slideshow) and is also a nearly-complete soundboard with the missing gaps filled with an audience recording. The sound is generally excellent.According to Jules McTrainspotter on http://uuweb.led-zeppelin.us, the sound on the DVD is more 'natural', that is, the sources have not been EQ'd to the extent that Empress Valley like to do it... and the blend between the two sources [soundboard and audience] is seamless. There is also excellent stereo seperation between both left and right speakers, quite distinct in What Is And What Should Never Be."Listening to the show today, one would hardly raise the eyebrow at Black Dog, Stairway To Heaven and Going To California - for these have become Led Zep classics and staples. But imagine the excitement of the Orlando audience - for many it would be the first time they were hearing these tracks which would make their appearance on the legendary Led Zeppelin IV album (released in November 1971). Stairway To Heaven was so new that Robert Plant had to introduce it!But what fans recall and really miss from this show is the presence of drummer John Bonham - from his exchanges with Jimmy Page and the "fat" sound of his drumming.Introduction** Immigrant Song HeartbreakerSince I've Been Loving You Dazed And Confused** Black Dog Stairway To Heaven Celebration Day** That's The Way** Going To California** What Is And What Should Never Be** Moby Dick Whole Lotta LoveOrgan Solo Thank You Note: Excellent soundboard source except ** where audience source used to complete.Lineup:Jimmy Page - guitarRobert Plant - vocalsJohn Paul Jones - bass, keyboardsJohn Bonham - drumsAh, ah, We come from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands, To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming! On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore. Ah, ah, We come from the land of the ice and snow, From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow. How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore, Of how we calmed the tides of war. We are your overlords. On we sweep with threshing oar, Our only goal will be the western shore.
