stock photos and myspace

myspace logoI’ve been trying to reach out to the users of myspace.com for a while now, but still havent seen any particular interest from this huge user group towards stockvault.net

So I’m asking, do myspace users care for stock photos, and should I be concentrating on these users at all?
I do realize that most of these users do not know much about web design, and do not realize the usability of textures and stock photography. Most of the myspace resource sites have code snippets that can be copy/pasted into peoples profiles to display a piece of clip art, background or a video, so I’m thinking if that’s something I should implant to the stock photo gallery or the site in general.

Please share your views, do you think that I should move into that direction with stockvault.net?

No. Honestly. No. As a MySpace user and graphic/web design and photographer, that would be, in my opinion, a waste of time. It sounds like a good idea, but there really isn’t a big enough fanbase for such a thing on MySpace.

Thanks for the comment Johnathan. I guess you are right about that, maybe a separate project would work better?

I disagree with the other Johnathan.

People love to decorate there myspaces with photos. The problem you are going to have is accesibility.

Most myspace users don’t have the technical expertise to resize photos, upload them to a webserver, etc. If you could create a myspace friendly code snippet copy & paste system, then you might have some success with your stock photos.

You could even take that one step further and have a code snippet that creates myspace templates/backrounds out of your stock photos. That might be more trouble, but it also might be worth it judging by the(little, or no) competition out there.

as far as stock photography goes, id suggest http://www.deviantart.com
this site has a forum based system, and the whole site revolves around art. thousands of new artists use stock from there every day. as for myspace, i think some people would possibly use them for backgrounds on profiles, or go “wow” a couple of times, and i must admit, there are some artists on there, but the general mass of peopl on there have no clue how to do anything with stock photography.
    my advice..
    deviant art.

also.. i forgot to add, like myspace, deviant art also has profiles and such. not just the forum area.

Thanks for your input David, Im very familiar with DA, a member since 2001. DA is a gfx community, and frankly I stopped using it after so many “non gfx” users started to sign up and populate the site. It does look like myspace alot these days, hehe…

Anyway, so you think stockvault would become better if I implanted a profile system where users could upload and share their images much like sxc.hu and deviantart?

how in the world do you resize a pic.
im sure it tells you somewhere on here but i cant find it..please help me.please.

  8. Bjorgvin says:

If you have Photoshop or a similar image editor you can easily resize and crop images in there. Im sure you can also find some online tools for it if you search for “resize images” on google.com
