Color and Shape Have you ever wondered why most restaurant logos are red in color? Well, that is because red on a subconscious level tends to make you hungry. Likewise, blue makes you feel comfortable; black makes you look elegant, and so on. And it is found that if someone sees the color orange it brings a subconscious feeling of wanting to do something new. That is ideal for a sales portal then. Just like the colors, shapes have a vocab of their own. A circle gives the feeling of community, wholeness, perfection, and has feminine qualities. A Rectangle gives a feeling of logic and security, while a Triangle gives you strength, structure, and masculine identity. Consider all these factors while designing your logo and get the right combination.
Readability Your logo should very clearly spell out your business name. Don't make the design such that the viewers have to think to decipher the name. keep the fonts clean and crisp. Think of all the popular logos around. Not many of them will have cursive linery, at least not the successful ones. What do find more familiar, the Sri Lankan flag or the Pakistan one?
Scalability Think and asses if your logo would look as good on a promotional item like a pen as it does on the banners. The key to good logo designs is scalability. If you create a pretty design on Photoshop, chances are that it'll be all blurred when you stretch it on to a billboard. Or what can happen is, when you want to get some promotional pens made and your logo won't transfer well because all the complicated drop shadows and gradients just bleed together on such a small surface that you can't even read what your logo says. Think about all these factors before designing your logo.
