The Look and Feel of A Corporate Web site

Article by Shilpi - February 25, 2009

A corporate Web site is the first point of contact for your customers. Therefore, corporate Web site design should give greater emphasis on customer behavior. There are different types of businesses with different types of offerings, so their Web sites also differ in appearance and contents. In all cases, the primary objective of the corporate Web site design should be the conversion factor- an activity such as a purchase, filling up a form, subscribing to a newsletter, etc.

Several factors need to be considered while designing the corporate Web site. The most important among them is the Web site content. Unless you have the right content, you cannot make the customers understand what you are offering. The Web site content should be appealing to all types of customers. Flamboyant display of words damages the reputation of your company. Instead, the contents should be precise and straightforward. Genuine customers appreciate transparent and simple expression.

Next, it is the layout and design of your Web site that need to be analyzed. Customers are rarely attracted by the look and feel of the Web site; rather, they are attracted to the best content available to them in the best form. If you think that the flashy graphics and multimedia designs would attract more visitors to your Web site, you are utterly wrong. The heavy multimedia and graphics files will, in fact, prevent your Web site from getting viewed properly. It will also face difficulty in getting indexed by the search engines.

Having easy navigation features is yet another important criterion required for a corporate Web design. The Web site should be designed bearing the plain Internet users in mind. The home page, which is often the first page appearing to a viewer, should act as a easy navigator to the user. Including a site map is also a good idea to facilitate effective interaction with the customers. Each tag or button assigned to the links and pages should be precise and clear. Creating interactive contents such as opinion polls, quizzes or promotional audios and videos are also found to be effective in improving customer experience. The last, but not the least, is the SEO friendly aspects. All of the above suggestions were made focusing the customer audience. Now, if you want your Web site to be viewed by your customer, you need to first present them in front of the search engines. There are many ways to make the corporate Web site a search engine friendly Web site. They include techniques such as SEO copywriting, website architecture, navigation structure etc. The points mentioned are very important when designing a corporate website.
