Getting a website + for Small Businesses

Article by Vj - June 14, 2008

Almost 90% of my potential clients that I have spoken to ask me the same first question.

How much does a web site cost ?

This is a usually an indication that he/she does not know what it takes to get an online presence.

So I have decided to write a short to the point article on the subject.
If you are a small business owner who wants to get a website created, this article is for you.

Here are the steps to getting a website.

1. Domain Names:
www.google.com, www.123cheapsite.com, www.whitehouse.gov are what we call domain names.
You will need to buy a domain name that has not been bought by someone else already.
Places to buy domain names : Godaddy.com, Moniker.com and there are many more.
You can purchase a domain name online using your credit card.
You can get more details on domain names by visiting UncleDomain.com
Cost : $10 / year approximately

2. Hosting :
A store owner pays a landlord to occupy a space for his business.
In the same way, your business also needs to rent a space on a server (a more powerful computer) on the internet.
This server that you rent to put your website in is provided by a company called a hosting company or simply host.
There are many hosting companies out there.
Here are some of the hosts that I reccomend.
To a beginner choosing a host can be very confusing. If you are confused feel free to contact me for a free consultation.
Cost : $10 / month approximately

3. Web Designing :
Don't do your business site yourself if you have never done it.
Get a professional web designer. You can find an affordable web designer if you search enough over the net.
Your web designer should be able to hold your hand through the whole process of getting a site.
The biggest mistake most small businesses do is to get an inexperienced web designer.

For an e-commerce shopping cart website you will also need to get a merchant account that will let you charge your customers online.

This is in very basic. Of course, there is more to it than that.
The best way to get started is to contact a couple of web designers and ask them all the questions that you can think of.

If you have any question feel free to contact our web designers.
