The last time I searched on Google for "free website", I found 903,000,000 results. Clearly, there are lots and lots of companies claiming to offer a free website. But what's the catch? Who in their right mind would offer anything worth having for free? Do you find it frustrating when you see a free offer on the internet, and then at the next click you are asked for your credit card details? Yes, the word "Free" should be read with extreme caution on the internet. Many of these "free" offers are time limited, so you may get 30 days as a free trial. Be wary of companies offering 30 days free and then asking £10+ per month for web hosting. You don't need to pay that when you can get budget hosting from reputable companies for half that price! But there are some genuine offers which have a few limitations in use, but none the less are very worthwhile following up, especially if you want to evaluate something new before investing your hard earned cash. The key points on free websites are:
1. Many offers are time limited, so are only free for say 30 days.
2. You can get a subdomain hosted for free for an unlimited period.
3. Your web host will probably display adverts on your free website.
4. Free websites can have good easy to use software to get your site online very quickly.
5. You may have to pay for certain features such as web statistics.
6. You may not be able to use html on a free website.
7. Some business/advertising directories do now allow free hosted websites.
8. Free websites are excellent for beginners and build confidence with webmaster skills.
